Coronavirus blues
As the coronavirus has been impacting the entire globe since early last year, without showing any noticeable signs of letting up, my life has also been changed significantly. Let me tell you some reasons why I feel this year is worse than last year.
Firstly, it’s quite stressful to work based on an irregular schedule and with less number of colleagues. Lately, I don’t go to the office every month. I’m working for an airline company and since the aviation industry is hit badly by the pandemic, the corporation currently is run by a reduced staff, who have to stay home or be at the office according to the previously-informed schedule on a monthly basis. During the work hours, I feel more pressured than I had felt before because of the decreased number of team members and sometimes I’m overwhelmed by some tasks that I’ve hardly experienced before.
Secondly, I failed to be nice to my kids. In the months that I’m supposed to work, I work at home at least three days a week and the rest at the office. So, my duty hour at home accounts for nearly 60% on the weekdays and undoubtedly the figure goes up to 100% when it comes to the off-duty months. I tried to manage my children’s daily to-do list, checking whether they earnestly achieved it or not, but it was always an excruciating tug-of-war since what they wanted was playing outside with friends. Sometimes I got angry with their behavior that led me to scold them and hurt them with harsh words.
Last but not least is my shrunk payroll. Due to the novel coronavirus, the local airline companies have been designated as a group that is eligible for receiving the government’s funds at the cost of cutting the managerial budgets and liquidating valuable assets. Since the amount of expenditure was established based on the average income of the ordinary days, getting used to the adjusted amount of money is difficult.
Overall, if the pandemic is not eradicated, my life would be miserable. I hope the government’s vaccination plan to achieve herd immunity will be successful this year and I wish all the people go back to their normal lives.
